Marcie Blane (born Marcia Blank, 21 May 1944, Brooklyn, New York) was a female singer who recorded pure pop music. The Seville record label issued a demo put by the high school student more as a favor for a friend. The song was "Bobby's Girl", which was followed by "What Does a Girl Do" and half a dozen other singles which sunk without trace. Recently a CD was issued of her entire output, although no original album was ever issued. Released in the fall of 1962, "Bobby's Girl" made No. 2 on the Cash Box chart and No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100, and was later recorded for the German market in their language. In the United Kingdom the song was covered by Susan Maughan who had the hit. "What Does A Girl Do?", the follow-up single, rose no higher than No. 82 on the Hot 100 list in early 1963, and was Blane's only other appearance on any Billboard chart. Marcie Blane came along at a time when white female singers were scoring high on the charts, and who were really more in line with girl group pop. 1962 had already had a chart topper in Shelley Fabares, and a year later came Peggy March, Lesley Gore, and others. Though most were painfully aware they would be one-hit wonders, Gore was able to surpass this with a thematic series of hits.
