| On February 2nd, 1959 the tour bus heading for Clear Lake, Iowa broke down. This tour bus was transporting several musical artists who were performing in the "Winter Dance Party Tour". Buddy Holly was one of those artists. Upon Arriving in Clear Lake, Buddy made arrangements to fly to the next stop. He leased an airplane (a four seater, Beech craft Bonanza). The plane originally was supposed to transport Buddy Holly and band members, Waylon Jennings and Tommy Allsup. Some time between the beginning of the show on the eve of February 2nd, 1959 and the end of the show, The Big Bopper and Ritchie Valens had managed to switch places with Waylon Jennings and Tommy Allsup. Following the show Buddy Holly, The Big Bopper and Ritchie Valens went to the airport in Mason City, Iowa. Their plane took off after midnight heading for Fargo, North Dakota. Shortly after take off the Beech craft Bonanza crashed with in a pasture approximately one mile from the airport. All passengers on board were killed. |

Ritchie Valens was only seventeen years old when this tragedy took place. His career although brief has made him a Rock n' Roll legend.
Buddy Holly was only 22 years old when this tragedy took place. He was going to be a father for the first time, his wife Maria was pregnant. Unfortunately, shortly after Buddy's death, Maria lost their unborn child.
The Big Bopper was only 28 years old when this tragedy took place. He left behind a wife , daughter and eighty-four days following his death his son (Jay) was born.
This page is dedicated to the trio of Rock n' Roll artists who have had such a major impact on many lives. All three were talented artists whose lives were cut to short.
